It would be nice to believe that society will do the right thing when confronted with this sort of issue just out of goodwill, but there's just so much greed and stupidity around that there's a lot to be said for the economist's approach: crunch all the data and then say "This number is bigger than that number. If you don't do something now you are an idiot."

Ha! Thats exactly what I was thinking last night when I heard this report.
Isn't it funny (and quite horrific) that it needs an economist's report before the world will actually do something about it.
Or instead, replace "an economist's report" with "the Wildebeest Asylum's post"
