1001 Albums: Help

So there's no way I'm actually spending money to buy 1001 albums, as that would end up costing me over 30 grand, so I'll be downloading these albums and then buying them if they turn out to be any good (I'm betting most of them won't be). However I'm having trouble finding a P2P service that has a decent selection of old stuff. I'm currently looking for Elvis' self titled album Elvis Presley, but I've had absolutely no luck. Can anyone recommend a program or website were I can download this sort of thing?

bittorent?
there are heaps of decent public trackers out there

*shudder* kazaa?

or try shareaza, that connects to many different networks and can be quite good!

what's this 1001 list? is there any pantera on there?

I might try shareaza (I'd rather stay away from kazaa), but unless you can recommend some specific trackers, I've found bittorrent to be excellent if you want the latest tv shows/movies/music, but not so good for random stuff.

If you follow the 1001 albums link in the article body you'll see what the list is about. Pantera's 'Vulgar Display of Power' is on there, along with a decent selection of Metallica, Sepultura and Megadeath. It's fairly comprehensive, for good or bad...

vulgar display is great :D a decent solid metal album

yeah, depends on the trackers. shareaza is good because it connects to the fasttrack network (kazaa) and both gnutella1 & 2 and it also does bittorrent.

Shareaza seems pretty good, still can't find the album I'm after on it's own, but I did find it as part of a 2Gb package of pretty much everything Elvis ever did.

I understand they don't have data caps on broadband over in Australia...

I've found bittorrent pretty good if you want entire albums. Just be prepared to search several sites. isohunt seems pretty good as does torrentspy.

the overnet network is pretty decent for music too and doesn't involve search websites (unless you want to) - look for emule or a variant of it.

of course, with both of them you'll need to leave the computer on for several days. good for long term downloads and having lots going at once. the gnutella network seems better for quick one mp3 downloads.

Thank you! Found exactly what I've been after on isohunt.

With Elvis you might be better to find out what songs were on that album, then search for those songs. I reccomend reading more about Elvis, as many of his songs actually have quite deep stories behind them, and he was an amazing man.

I've tried the individual songs route too, but some of them are pretty obscure so I had no luck. Never mind, the bittorrent I found is working. It might take a few days though...

Tried soulseek too. No joy.
